Macquarie University commissioned Gray Puksand to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the existing cardiology clinics located in Macquarie University Private Hospital. Macquarie University Hospital is Australia’s first private not-for-profit teaching hospital located on a university campus. The hospital integrates the three essential components of an academic health science centre: clinical care, education, and research.

Collocated next to the Macquarie University Clinic and the University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, this integrated network means that patients benefit from the collaboration of specialists and researchers.

The Cardiology project required the conversion of existing clinical suites into a consolidated Cardiovascular and Respiratory Outpatients Unit. Previously, the two units had separate receptions, waiting areas and support facilities – Gray Puksand consolidated the layout for the floor with a single combined reception and waiting area, which enabled an increase in capacity for clinical services on the floor.

The design for all new operating clinics complies with the Australasian Health Facilities Guidelines and includes adaptable spatial design to accommodate various service requirements of each unit including learning, along with a selection of materials and fittings that comply with AHFG requirements while providing a spatial atmosphere beyond the typical clinical spaces.
